They have the show House in France
So I am in the middle of watching House in french. This is a really big upgrade from the equivalent of fine home building I have been watching so far. I just had dinner with my french family and one of the italians who is staying here. We had potatoes and I think something like country friend pork? I was really hoping that it was a hash brown when I put it on my plate but it wasn't. The best part was that we had crepes, which was perfect because she had to explain to the Italian all about the jelly because I am still not sure if it is apricot or peach but it is the best jelly I have ever had. The father and his brother have a garden in the country where they grow things and can them and it comes from there. The mom explained though that it was confiture des petit mirabelles, une type de prune. I just looked it up, mirabelles are plums? that makes sense because in the picture they are the same color as the jelly. Whatever it is it is delicious. House is much harder to understand than my host family. We stayed at dinner for a long time and talked about politics, and antisemitism (because the italian did his these on antisemitism in Italy). Everyone in this family seems like very educated. And yet somehow, I accidently told them that detroit was the capitol of michigan and none of them caught it. If they ever do I am going to use Beatriz's solution and tell them that I thought they meant the MOTOR capital.
